Innovation in Action: Our New Lean‑To Created Through STEM Project

20th Mar 2026

Our school is celebrating a fantastic achievement made possible through the STEM Innovate and Create Project. Thanks to the creativity and problem‑solving skills of our P4, P5 and P6 pupils—who designed models and prototypes using Minecraft Education and real materials—we now have a brand‑new lean‑to on our school grounds. Their ideas directly shaped the final design!

This project was made possible by funding from the James Kane Grant, secured by Ciaran Collins (CiCo), to whom we extend our sincere thanks.

We are also deeply grateful to our project partners:

  • OHM Engineering, who visited classes, supported pupils to think like real engineers, and even gifted our school a new storage unit.
  • MEGA, who coordinated the entire project and connected us with OHM Engineering.
  • McElhatton Joinery, who transformed pupils’ concepts into the completed lean‑to structure we see today.

Younger and older pupils—P1, P2 and P7—also joined the experience through hands‑on STEM taster sessions.

This project is a wonderful example of what can be achieved when schools, industry partners and the community work together. It also perfectly reflects our School Council motto: “You said… we did!”

A huge thank‑you to MEGA, OHM Engineering, McElhatton Joinery and Ciaran Collins (CiCo)—and to our pupils for their imagination, enthusiasm and teamwork. We are incredibly proud of what they’ve created.
